Apple's new open-source model turns 2D photos into 3D views
2+ hour, 36+ min ago (358+ words) Apple has published a study titled Sharp Monocular View Synthesis in Less Than a Second, in which it details how it trained a model to reconstruct a 3D scene from a single 2D image, while keeping distances and scale consistent in real-world terms. Here's how Apple's researchers present the study: In a nutshell, the model predicts a 3D representation of the scene, which can be rendered from nearby viewpoints. A 3D Gaussian is basically a small, fuzzy blob of color and light, positioned in space. When millions of these blobs are combined, they can recreate a 3D scene that looks accurate from that specific vantage point. To achieve this, Apple trained SHARP on large amounts of synthetic and real-world data, enabling it to learn common patterns of depth and geometry across multiple scenes. This enables SHARP to reconstruct a plausible 3D scene without requiring multiple images…...
I Won't Use This Potential iOS 26.3 Feature, but You Can if You're Craving an Android
2+ hour, 55+ min ago (533+ words) Apple could also make it easier for you to connect a non-Apple smartwatch to your iPhone with the upcoming update. Apple and Google aren't exactly known for their collaboration, but they've been playing nicer in the past couple of years, including with Apple bringing RCS to its Messages app. Now, the iOS 26.3 beta offers an option to simplify the switch from iPhone to Android. Apple released the first beta of iOS 26.3 on Wednesday, a few days after the company released iOS 26.2, which included more ways to customize your iPhone's Liquid Glass design." iOS 26.3 could now make it easy to transfer your iPhone data to an Android device. Developers and public beta testers can access this feature today. Since this is a beta, I recommend downloading it on a device other than your primary one. This isn't the final version of…...
That One Share Button That Broke on iOS 26 and How I Fixed It
3+ hour, 4+ min ago (420+ words) A few weeks ago, during my holiday break, I decided to revisit one of my old pet projects WallpaperHub. It's a simple Flutter app where users can browse wallpapers and share them with friends. Or at least" that's what I thought. The app had been running perfectly for a long time. I recently updated my system and got access to an iOS 26 device. Naturally, I wanted to run the app and see how it behaves on the latest iOS. The app launched. The UI looked fine. Scrolling was smooth. Then I tapped the Share button. " Boom. Runtime exception. The crash happened only when triggering the share action. What confused me even more: But on iOS 26, the app crashed immediately. At first, I assumed: But no, this was a real breaking change. After carefully reading the logs, the issue pointed toward…...

Activating a new iPhone when old phone is dead & can’t receive 2FA msgs?
3+ hour, 47+ min ago (269+ words) Mrs. Zombiedance recently killed her iPhone 12. Apparently they are not as waterproof as some might think. She has a new iPhone 17 that she is trying to activate, but when she reaches the activation part where it requests her Apple ID, it sends a 2FA message to her old (dead) phone, which she isn't able to receive. She then tried to activate her phone skipping the Apple ID sign-in so she could at least call and receive texts. She uses ATT Prepaid and when she tried to log in on her computer to get an ESim QR code, it sent a 2FA message to her phone " which, of course, she didn't receive. She knows her Apple password, and has a Macbook that is now requesting that she sign in with her Apple ID (which she can't do because she uses her phone for…...

iOS 26.2 Released: What Devs Need to Know
4+ hour, 26+ min ago (412+ words) Apple released iOS 26.2 on December 12, 2025, bringing important updates and features that developers should understand and test in their apps before widespread adoption. Here's what's new and what you should be doing right now. The Lock Screen now has an expanded Liquid Glass slider that lets users adjust how transparent the clock appears. This builds on iOS 26.1's "Clear" and "Tinted" options by adding a granular slider for fine-tuning the frosted glass effect. If your app has custom Lock Screen widgets or interacts with the Lock Screen in any way, test how they look across different Liquid Glass transparency settings. The Measure app's level indicator also received a Liquid Glass update, using translucent bubbles instead of white circles. Pop-out menus that expand from corner buttons now have quicker, bouncier animations. This affects context menus, action sheets, and custom UIMenu implementations in…...
